Backup! No Seriously, Back the Hell Up!

So here I am again. Writing about more people who chose to ignore my geek like rantings and instead decided to do their own 'thing'. A 'thing' that they knew nothing about. A 'thing' that, in the stop, cost them hours of stress and pointless searching of their precious computer hard drive.

I am, of course, talking about ignoring my advice about backing up our systems. About taking a half hour to click a few buttons and go create a coffee or something whilst your smart bin of digital wonders ensures any human or computer errors are reversible.

Since I was introduced to computers some years ago now, when I waved a 5 3/4 floppy around and attempted to fall it into the drive without touching that delicate exposed data, I was pushed to backup my data. If I remember rightly I used the old Zip drive (tape) and it worked well. It was the Fort Knox of the data backup world. It whizzed away for what seemed like ages before finally grinding to a halt and the green text monitor would declare itself 'backed up'.

Ah I miss those days. Those innocent days when usual folk couldn't have a computer because they would need a mortgage to buy one. When usual folk spared us 'all knowing ones' from the drama of that late night phone call from students that could not locate their 15,000 word essay, obviously due in the morning.

No, those days are gone. And so back to my point. Why the hell are people not backing up like we used to? Data today is more important than it ever was back in the good old days. When computers held nothing more than some random game or a database of anything (because it looked impressive).

It's not like there is a shortage of backup software. Every operating system offers their own, inbuilt, backup options don't they? Ah. But you haven't bothered reading the 'instructions' right? Computer came straight out of the crate and you switched it upon with reading the important, some would say boring, stuff?

There are even magical clouds that can store your data effortlessly now. Well, maybe not magical per se, but beautiful great compared to my old zip drive.

Your going to be using software that you have never used before, registry cleaners, virus removal and the like. So why wouldn't you take care of your files?

And so my rant ends. I just wanted to say, upon behalf of all those that are old school and remember the backup waiting times, the countless disks and the patience of a saint, please backup up your precious computer!

When using software that you haven't used before please create determined you understand what it does and how sites like http://crapcleaner.net can offer you free software that can help retain you system speed and registry for free! With the advice to boot.
